The Story of the Founding of Our Lady of Al-Nouria Monastery
Nouria Energy was named for the Al-Nouria Monastery, established by the monk Abdul Massih, from Anfeh, with his colleague the monk John Ben Aksanovon, around 503 A.D. Abdul Massih was heading for the monastery of St. Saba in Jerusalem, when he saw a bright light coming from inside the cave and a beautiful woman carrying a child, "Look at the sea", she said to him. He saw a naked young man tied to a piece of wood and ran into the sea to rescue him. The young man said to Abdul Massih, "Help me reach out to the woman in the light", who was calling out, "Fear not my son. I am with you". Abdul Massih said to the young man: "It is the Virgin Mary" and they climbed to this place and worshipped her. Later, they settled at this spot and were joined by some monks. Together, they built hermitages around the cave-church.
